Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz “plays both sides” on the issue of Palestine and Israel in his speeches, but that doesn’t change the fact that he is bought out by AIPAC, and uses his voting power to ensure Israel’s political agenda. In January 2024, Brian published a statement to his government page, “While Israel has the right and obligation to defend itself, there is no reason we should provide additional destructive offensive weapons that are likely to be used in an invasion of Rafah. Israel must target Hamas in a much more precise manner that prevents avoidable civilian death and suffering.” Just 3 months later Brutal Brian signed onto the Strengthening of Israel-U.S. Alliance Act, which provides Israel with $3.8 billion in unconditional military aid. The money that Brutal Brian voted in favor for killed over 39,000 Palestinian civilians, including over 15,000 children. While Brutal Brian pretends to have moral high ground, we know that he has sold his soul to AIAPC to ensure he votes in favor of Israel.

In another press release in January 2024, Brian discussed his support for Resolution 504, the Foreign Assistance Act, which would necessitate the State Department to provide reports on potential human rights violations and the use of U.S. military weapons in Gaza. Brian stated, “But it is so far the only available avenue to register our concerns with both the Israeli government’s conduct of the war – which has resulted in over 24,000 civilian casualties – and the undermining of congressional oversight around arms transfers.” If Brian cared to reduce human rights violations, why did he vote 3 months later after that statement to cut funding to the human right organization UNRWA in Palestine? UNRWA, is one the few functioning humanitarian organizations in the region that has provided direct services to Gazans. The attack on Gaza’s civil society has been from every direction, and Brutal Brian has signed off on those actions.

More recently Senator Brian Schatz has been the leading congressman calling for a Two-State solution. Brutal Brian’s said that, “The U.S. government has long supported a two-state solution as a path to a just and lasting peace in the region, and our amendment reaffirms our continued commitment to that vision.” The fact that a U.S. born Senator gets to dictate how historic Palestine’s land is divided into segments alongside its colonizer is fundamentally wrong and continues to perpetuate Israel’s violence of land grabs. It has been 76 years since Palestine has been under Israel’s control, and Brutal Brian thinks continuing that colonial project is the only means of peace for the region. Senator Brian is no promoter of peace, and his only loyalty is to AIPAC, who cuts his checks.
