Democrat Representative Don Davis of North Carolina has emerged as a loyal supporter of Israel, a stance heavily influenced by the over half a million dollars of $543,572 he has received from AIPAC. This substantial financial backing has undoubtedly shaped his voting record, as Davis consistently supports pro-Israel legislation that ignores the devastating consequences for Palestinians. A recent study revealed that over half of the American population disapproved of the Israeli military’s actions in the Gaza Strip. His actions demonstrate a disturbing alignment with the interests of his donors rather U.S. tax payers he is sworn in to serve. Davis' voted against ceasefire resolutions and to investigations into the Israeli military’s killing of Palestinian civilians, including the U.S. journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, further underscore his commitment to advancing Israel’s military agenda, regardless of the human cost.
Since October 2023, Israel's relentless bombardment of Gaza has resulted in an escalating humanitarian catastrophe. Gaza has been systematically decimated: more than half of the homes are damaged, 80% of commercial facilities destroyed, and 85% of schools reduced to rubble. Hospitals and vital infrastructure have been obliterated, with 65% of road networks and cropland wiped out, and all universities completely destroyed. In the West Bank, the violence persists as Israeli forces have killed thousands of Palestinians, bulldozed entire villages like Jenin, and allowed settlers to seize Palestinian land with impunity. Despite these atrocities, Davis has consistently voted in favor of measures that enable and empower Israel’s military, including the $26.38 billion in U.S. taxpayer funds to bolster Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza.
Davis’ public statements reveal a deeply troubling perspective. Following his visit to Israel in January 2024, four months into the genocide in Gaza, Davis reaffirmed his unwavering support for Israel, claiming, “Instability and extremism continue to plague the Middle East... We must work to no end toward peace. The United States must continue to stand firmly in support of building democracies and cooperating with our allies.” His rhetoric about “stability” and “democracy” rings hollow as the devastation in Gaza unfolds, financed by U.S. tax dollars and enabled by legislators like Davis who refuse to hold Israel accountable for its war crimes. Davis’ support for Israel, bought and paid for by AIPAC, reveals a politician who prioritizes political alliances over justice and human dignity.
