Colorado Senator John Hickenlooper presents himself as a fair supporter of both Palestine and Israel in his speeches, but that doesn’t change the fact that he is bought out by AIPAC, and uses his voting power to ensure Israel’s political agenda. Two months into the genocide, on Noverember 2023, Senator John Hickenlooper published a statement to his government page, “What we’re witnessing in Gaza is a toll in civilian deaths that make it clear we need a humanitarian pause. Doing so would get vital food, water, and medical supplies to the civilian population and permit foreign nationals to leave Gaza.” This did not stop Hack Hickenlooper from sending Israel $3.8 billion in unconditional military aid 5 months later through the Strengthening of Israel-U.S. Alliance Act. With the funds Senator John Hickenlooper sent, Israel was able to murder over 39,000 Palestinian civilians. Those funds also helped Israel bomb healthcare facilities 167 times in Gaza since October 2023, killing over 198 medical staff. The bombing has also left 26 hospitals and 52 healthcare centers in Gaza out of service, including the destruction of 55 ambulances. The medical supplies John speaks of are no good if Israel continues to destroy the healthcare system in Gaza.
Then in January 2024, Hack Hickenlooper released a statement saying, “The high rate of civilian casualties and ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza needs to end. We continue to urge Israel to follow international law and take all necessary precautions to limit civilian harm in its war with Hamas.” If Senator John Hickenlooper wanted an end to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, why did he vote 3 months later after that statement to cut funding to the human right organization UNRWA in Palestine? UNRWA, is one the few functioning humanitarian organizations in the region that has provided direct services to Gazans. The attack on Gaza’s civil society has been from every direction, and Hack Hickenlooper has signed off on those atrocities.
