Senator Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire has been a loyal supporter of Israel, bolstered by the $637,992 in campaign contributions from AIPAC. These funds have undoubtedly influenced her consistent votes in favor of legislation that props up Israel's military, even as it carries out atrocities against Palestinians. Hassan’s voting record is clear: she voted to cut U.S. funding for UNRWA, the humanitarian organization providing food, water, and medicine to the besieged population of Gaza. Her actions support the ongoing military aggression that has devastated Gaza, where, according to the Lancet, up to 180,000 Gazans are projected to die as a result of the genocide Israel is perpetrating.
Despite the catastrophic human toll, Hassan has repeatedly justified her decisions with hawkish rhetoric. In an April 2024 statement, she backed sending over $30 billion in unconditional military aid to Israel without once mentioning the thousands of Palestinians killed by Israeli bombs. Instead, she framed the aid as essential to protect Israel from "terrorist organizations" and the "Iranian regime," while ignoring the brutal consequences for Gazans. As Israel systematically destroys Gaza’s infrastructure—bombing hospitals, schools, and residential areas—Hassan continues to prioritize military aid, reinforcing the occupation and expanding land grabs in the West Bank.
In a particularly troubling statement from October 2023, Hassan made it clear that she stands by Israel no matter the cost in human lives: “Israel has the right to exist, the right to self-determination, and the right to self-defense.” However, this defense comes at the expense of over two million Gazans, many of whom are facing starvation and genocide due to the blockade and ongoing bombardment. Senator Hassan’s unwavering support for Israel is not just a political stance—it’s an endorsement of a regime committing war crimes, funded with American tax dollars and reinforced by U.S. legislators like her.
