California Representative Ted Lieu has proven to be a good friend of Israel and their colonial project of Palestine. Toxic Ted has been a strong advocate for Israel by holding press conferences in support of the regime and signing onto bills that align with them militarily. Ted published a statement to his website October 2023 stating, “Hamas is a genocidal, homicidal, religiously fanatical terrorist organization. Israel has the absolute right to dismantle Hamas. I continue to mourn with Israelis and Americans who lost loved ones, and I desperately hope for the safe return of those still being held hostage by Hamas.” Ted’s statement is incredibly insensitive given that Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza, with over 39,000 civilians murdered, including more than 15,000 children. Ted has sold his soul to the highest bidder, and has disregarded human lives in order to keep his AIPAC checks from clearing.
Toxic Ted has been vocal on the importance of passing the Strengthening the Israel-U.S. Alliance Act, which provides Israel with $3.8 billion to spend on weaponry. This funding aligns with the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the U.S. and Israel, which was established in 2016 and outlines a commitment of $38 billion in military assistance over a ten-year period. Lieu backed his vote by stating, “I support aid for Ukraine. I support aid for the Indo-Pacific. And I support aid for Israel. Today I was presented with the opportunity to support one of these priorities and I voted in favor of doing so.” The aid package California Rep. Lieu's support to send to Israel has enabled them to destroy “62 percent of all homes in Gaza, equivalent to 290,820 housing units, and more than a million people are without homes.” This comes to no surprise since Ted Lieu has taken $322,555 from AIPAC and other Israeli lobby groups.
